There’s so much I can’t wait to see and I hope it’s the huge hit it deserves to be.Invincible #1 facsimile edition (Image credit: Skybound Entertainment) (opens in new tab) And the biggest compliment I can pay this is that Invincible is so comparable to Spider-man on so many levels. Most of all it has characters that are multi-layered and who are quite often relatable. ![]() At times it’s incredibly gory and it has humour which can be perfectly understated but also laugh at loud at other points. Just as with the comics, it won’t take long until you’re invested in this show. The first time we get to see Mark in his suit was an incredible moment – actually every time we see him as Invincible is so inexplicably exciting. I could rewind it and watch it over and over again for the rest of my life. There’s a huge scene at the end of the first episode and this plays out gloriously. The most appealing thing about Invincible is just how many scenes feel like you’re genuinely watching frames from the comic brought to life. We meet many other superheroes along the way and some of them resemble characters from other franchises. Oh, and I also love Monster Girl in the comics and thought she plays on screen fabulously. He gives us the right amount of Seth and I was just so excited to see his first appearance in episode two. I have to throw a special shout out to Seth Rogan who voices my favourite character, Allen the Alien. Throw in Andrew Rennells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Gaggins and the incredible Mark Hamill to the mix and we’re presented with one hell of a cast. Watching them on screen was just how I imagined them to be. Zachary Quinto is actual perfection as Robot and Jason Mantzoukas does such a fantastic job with Rex Splode. The Teen Team will play a very important part of this show and I loved seeing them brought to life. Other main characters bring some bloody awesome vocal talent with them. Doc Seismic (Chris Diamantopoulos) makes his first appearance too and is just as entertaining. They have to be some of my favourite comic book characters and they don’t disappoint in this at all. The Mauler Twins (Kevin Michael Richardson) are incredible and as menacing as they are, I find myself chuckling as I read them argue over who is the original and who is the clone. It boasts some great villains and by the end of these first 3 episodes we’ve met some of the best. One thing I love about Invincible is how great the characters are. The dynamics of Mark’s Mum, Debbie (Sandra Oh) living with a superhero as her husband are interesting and it’s fun to have her fully involved, immersed and participating in their world. His voice gives the character gravitas, authority and just makes him seem so mighty. The first episode builds up to a powerful reveal of Omni-Man who J.K Simmons brings to life fantastically well. Half human and half Viltrumite, 17 year old Mark has been waiting years for the powers he’s inherited from his Dad to kick in. ![]() Sure, he looks like your average teenage kid but he just so happens to be the son of the greatest superhero in the world, Omni-Man. Created by writer Robert Kirkman (one of the minds behind The Walking Dead) and artist Corey Walker, with artist Ryan Ottley, you’re in for one hell of a ride with great characters and a great over arching story. Invincible is the latest comic book series to hit our tv screens and I’ve been very excited about this for quite some time.
